PTMin 2026: Rhyolite – Rock of the Year 2026

Three members of the PannonianVolcano Research Group – Réka Lukács, Szabolcs Harangi and Máté Szemerédi – participated in the 31st Meeting of the Petrology Group of the Mineralogical Society of Poland (PTMin 2026), organised under the title “Rhyolite: Rock of the Year 2026 – Rhyolites through the Ages.”

The meeting brought together researchers interested in rhyolites and silicic magmatism, providing an excellent opportunity to share new results, discuss scientific questions and learn about ongoing research in this field.

Réka Lukács was invited to give a keynote presentation on the Miocene silicic volcanism of the Carpathian–Pannonian Region. The three members of our research group presented their individual research topics and introduced the broader research activities of the PannonianVolcano Research Group.

The conference was held in a friendly and inspiring atmosphere, with many interesting scientific presentations and discussions. A special part of the programme was the pre-conference Rhyolite Group Meeting, which aimed to establish new collaborations and strengthen existing connections among researchers working on rhyolites and silicic magmatism.

We would like to thank Elżbieta Słodczyk, Magdalena Pańczyk and Anna Pietranik for their excellent organisation and for bringing together such an enthusiastic scientific community.

We returned home with new ideas, inspiration and great memories. Many thanks to all participants for making this meeting such a wonderful experience!
